Dental Clearance Required
Before beginning your orthodontic journey, we ensure your teeth and gums are healthy. Every patient must receive general dental clearance—because a healthy smile is the foundation for a straight one!
Phase 1, or early interceptive treatment, typically begins between ages 7 and 10 while a child still has some baby teeth. This early stage of orthodontic care helps guide jaw growth, create space for permanent teeth, and correct developing bite or alignment issues before they become more complex. By addressing these concerns early, Phase 1 treatment can reduce the need for extractions or lengthy treatment later on. It sets the foundation for a healthier, more balanced smile as your child grows.
Phase 2 treatment begins once all or most of the permanent teeth have come in—usually around age 11 to 13. This stage focuses on achieving the final alignment of the teeth and bite, ensuring everything fits and functions properly. Using braces or clear aligners, Phase 2 fine-tunes your child’s smile for optimal appearance, comfort, and long-term oral health. It builds on the foundation established during Phase 1, resulting in a confident, lasting smile.

Phase 1 treatment, also called early interceptive treatment, begins while your child still has baby teeth. It helps guide jaw growth, create space for adult teeth, and correct early bite or alignment issues.
If your child has crowded teeth, an overbite, thumb-sucking habits, or early jaw imbalance, an orthodontic evaluation around age 7 can determine if early treatment is needed.
Most Phase 1 treatments last about 6–12 months, depending on your child’s needs. Afterward, your orthodontist will monitor growth until it’s time for Phase 2.
In many cases, yes—but Phase 1 treatment can make Phase 2 shorter, simpler, and more effective by addressing major issues early on.
